3 Elected To Town Council

Sykesville voters, on Tuesday, elected two men and one woman to four-year terms on the town council.

Successful candidates were William Brandenburg, Horace C. Jefferson and Mrs. Thelma C. Wimmer.

Mrs. Wimmer is the second woman in the town’s 63-year history to win election to the council. The first was the late Miss Margaret L. Harris.

Mr. Brandenburg led the ticket, followed closely by Capt. Jefferson, the only councilman seeking reelection. Mrs. Wimmer won by a margin of five votes over Francis C. Manner.

The vote was: Brandenburg, 110; Jefferson, 100; Mrs. Wimmer, 80; and Manner, 75. There were two write-in votes for Russell Hughes and one for Harry Dwyer.

A total of 129 persons voted, approximately 40% of the total registration of 32%.

There are four holdover town officials with two more years to serve. They are: Mayor Bernard McDougall and Councilmen W. Henry Forsyth, Alvin L. Howes and Calvin C. Conaway.
