Howard County Officer Shot Down in Action in France

Mr. John W. Selby, of Ivory, Howard County, received a cablegram on Tuesday from France stating that his son, Captain Horace J. Selby, has been seriously wounded in action.

Captain Selby is about 23 years old. He is a graduate of St. John’s College. He enlisted in the United States Army and served under General Pershing during the troubles on the Mexican border. Later he was assigned to Fort Leavenworth, and was there promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant. He was among the first to go with t he American Expeditionary Forces to France, and it was only last April that he was pomoted to the rank of Captain.
