Firemen’s Annual Meeting Wed., Jan. 18

January 12, 1950

Reports on activities during the past year and election of officers for 1950 will feature the 16th annual meeting of the Sykesville Volunteer Fire Company. The annual session, to be called to order by President Edward R. Grimes, will be held Wednesday evening, Jan. 18, at 8 o’clock, in the local fire house.

Offices to be filled include president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, chief and six places on the executive committee. Also to be selected are fire truck drivers and two assistant chiefs.

Unless there is a last-minute flurry of “write in” votes, Winton S. Varner, local station agent, will receive the presidency unopposed. The other nominee, Leroy S. Keeney, who was formally named at the company meeting in December, has withdrawn from the race. Keeney, a member of the town council, said that after due consideration, he had decided not to be a candidate for president of the Fire Company.
