Former Soviet Prisoner Speaks At Saint Josephs

October 21, 1971

Father Walter J. Ciszek, S.J. lecturer and author of “With God In Russia” which was serialized in the Baltimore Sun paper several years ago will be the guest speaker at St. Joseph’s new church hall at Liberty Road and Freedom Avenue, Eldersburg on Wednesday, October 27 at 8 p.m.

Father Ciszek was a prisoner of the communists for 23 years in Russia. His book tells of the evil and cruel treatment of the victims of soviet communism.

Transferred from one communist concentration camp and prison to another, Father Ciszek experienced hunger, isolation and the brutal treatment and inhumanities that the communists subject their slave laborers to.

Although attempts were made to brainwash and indoctrinate Father Ciszek, he tells how his total trust in God and his own determination to serve God’s will enabled him to survive and return once again to the United States, his homeland.

Presently assigned to John XXII Center for Eastern Christian Studies at Fordham University, Father Ciszek has just completed his second book which will soon be published.

The public is invited to come and hear and meet Father Ciszek by St/ Joseph’s Right To Life Committee who is sponsoring the evening.
