Rev. Claude Leyfield Becomes a Chaplain in U. S. Service

The Rev. Claude H. Leyfield, of Baltimore, former pastor of St. Paul’s M. E. Church, Sykesville, and son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. John Harris, has been appointed a Chaplain in the U. S. Navy and will report about the middle of the month. This makes five former pastors of the Sykesville Church who have gone into the service. All of them have occupied the pulpit of the Church within three years and all are young men of exceptional ability. The others are Rev. W. M. Depp, Robert E. Zeigler, W. H. Harrison and Milton Peizold.

Mr. Leyfield was pastor of Homestead Church, Baltimore. The Church was loath to have him go, but the call from the Government was urgent and he responded. He has been doing good work among the soldiers at Camp Meade since that camp was established, and this fact attracted the attention of the Government at Washington with the result stated.
