Improvements at Sykes Mansion

December 25, 1913
It will be a matter of more than passing interest to Sykesville people to learn that the old Sykes Mansion, originally the home of the man for whom Sykesville was named, which stands on the Howard side of the river, just back of Athletic Park, is to undergo extensive alterations.

The old mansion has 45 rooms and is one of the showplaces in this section. It stands in a picturesque spot in a climb of whispering pines and faces the river. It was once the life and social center of this part of the country.

For some time, a single family has occupied a portion of the house. Its present owners, so the Herald is informed, have contracted to have a modern system of plumbing installed throughout the house, with hot and cold water in practically all of the rooms.

A new wind pump is to be put in and a new six room tenant house is to be built on the property. Beyond this, the Herald is not permitted to state the plans of the owners or to what use the mansion will be put.
