Michelson’s Dept. Store, Eldersburg, Opens March 1

Friday, March 1, will mark the grand opening of Michelson’s Department Store in the Eldersburg shopping Center.

Formerly Big Boy’s Trading Center in the Masonic Building, the new and enlarged store is located in the shopping center quarters until recently occupied by George’s food store.

The space in the Masonic Building being vacated by Big Boy’s is to be taken by the Sykesville State Bank which plans to expand its Eldersburg branch.

Eleven years ago, in 1957, Big Boy’s Trading Center, at Eldersburg, was opened by the late Harry Michelson, with his wife, Ruth, and son, Warren. The Michelson family had previously operated a men’s clothing store in Baltimore for 30 years.

Since coming to the local scene, the Michelsons have been active in the business community life of the Sykesville-Eldersburg area. They are charter supporters of the Carroll County YMCA and one of the original supporters of the Sykesville Pony League.

The new store will be known as Michelson’s and will be operated by Warren Michelson and his mother,Mrs. Ruth Michelson. It will carry wearing apparel and shoes for
