Minstrel Show March 16 For Eldersburg Improvement Ass’n

A minstrel show, sponsored by the Eldersburg Improvement Association for the community center building fund, will be held next Wednesday evening, March 16, in the Springfield State Hospital auditorium, Sykesville. Curtain time is 8:15 P.M.

Described as somewhat modernized in music and features but lacking none of the traditional and old-time appeal, the minstrel show is being produced by the Westminster Lions Club. The cast includes some 40 members under the direction of Clarke Shumate.

The show will have its premiere at Sykesville for benefit of the Eldersburg improvement group on March 16. On the following evening, Thursday, March 17, it will be presented in the Senior High School at Westminster for benefit of the Westminster Lions Club.

Henry Himler will be the interlocutor. End men includde: Carroll Fritz, Woodrow Taylor, John Marsh, Frank Battaglini and Clarke Shumate. A guest soloist will be James M. McMahan, Western Maryland College.

The show will be about 90 minutes long. Gene Frock, in charge of music, will have George Varga as pianist. The program will include 12 numbers.

Tickets for the Sykesville performance may be obtained from members of the Eldersburg Improvement Association or at the door on the night of the show.
