New Factory Coming to Sykesville at Early Date

July 18, 1918

At an interesting meeting of the Sykesville Board of Trade on Tuesday night, a deal was closed with Paul & Berney, the well known manufacturers of ladies garments, who have been in business on Hanover Street for 35 years, for the establishment of a branch factory in Sykesville at once.

The Sykesville factory will manufacture silk waists and other garments and will give employment to as many operators as apply. Good wages will be paid women and girls awhile learning and the firm say that proficient operators will be paid from $10 to $18 a week.

The factory will occupy the upper floor of the Carter Building, with a floor space 83×30 feet. The room is well lighted and will have every convenience. There will be a front entrance.

Persons desiring employment in this factory are requested to register their names with William M. Chipley, at the Sykesville National Bank, at once. Fifty operatives are desired. Power machines will be used. The factory will begin operations so soon as the plant can be made ready.
