Pony League Opens May 19

May 9, 1968

A meeting of Sykesville Pony League officials was held at St. Paul’s social hall on Tuesday, May 7. The park will open on May 19th with three ball games, the first at 1:30 p.m.

At the meeting, it was decided to have a bull roast on July 14th, from 1 to 6 p.m. Details will be announced later.

It was decided to make the following improvements at Pony League Park in the near future: Install two fountains in the dugouts; repair the dugouts; tile the floor in the clubhouse; put a ceiling in the clubhouse; install bars over the upstairs windows; have a pole with lights on it installed, in order to cut down on some of the vandalism; screening over the windows in the clubhouse and the addition of several truck loads of topsoil to the baselines.

In order to made all these improvements, the league will need the help of many people. Anyone who has a few spare hours, is requested to come out to Pony League Park, Saturday or Sunday, May 11 or 12, between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m, or call Larry Duncan at 795-0630 or 795-9810. There will be people working at the field every night the week of May 13th.

It is hoped by the officers, that, with people giving a few hours of their time, this can be one of the best seasons at the Pony League Park. This is a community project for the benefit of the youth in the community — the more support received the stronger and better the program.
