Presbyterian Unit To Be Dedicated Sunday

November 7, 1963

The new educational unit, pictured above, (picture missing) of Springfield Presbyterian Church, Sykesville, is to be dedicated this Sunday, Nov. 10, at 4:30 P.M.

The service of worship will be held in the sanctuary of the old building with the Rev. Carl Pritchett, Moderator of the old building with the Rev. Carl Pritchett, Moderator of Potomac Presbytery, presiding. Greetings from the Presbytery will be given by the Rev. James Ficklen, Executive Secretary.

The Rev. Robert Galloway, minister of Towson Presbyterian Church, will deliver the sermon. Three former pastors of Springfield will take part in the service — the Rev. Thomas A. Little, Jr., Dickey Memorial Presbyterian Church, Baltimore; the Rev. Julian T. Owen, Gerrardstown, W. Va,. and Dr. Morton H. Smith Oreland, Pa.

The litany of dedication will be held in the new building. The Rev. William Fletcher is pastor of the Springfield congregation.

The $35,000 educational unit is the first addition in the 127-year history of Springfield Church. The one-story-and-basement brick building, started in the fall of 1962 by William Schneider, local building contractor, was first occupied for Christian education purposes in March of this year.
