St. Barnabas’ Scene of Wedding

February 8, 1945

Daughter of Seventh Army Colonel Weds Naval Lieutenant

St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Sykesville, was the scene of a lovely wedding Saturday afternoon when Miss Norma John Wood, daughter of Lt. Col. Paul H. Wood, of the Seventh U. S. Army in France, and Mrs. Wood of Ohio, became the bride of Lt. Mortimer Garrison, Jr., USNR, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mortimer Garrison, Sr,. of Bridgeton, N. J.

The ring ceremony was performed by candlelight at two o’clock in the presence of the immediate families and a few intimate friends. The rector of the church, Rev. Frank Allen Parsons, officiated.

The church was attractively decorated with white carnations and white snapdragons. Mr. Warren Spencer acted as usher and Mrs. Carrie Dean played the wedding marches.

The bride entered the church on the arm of Mr. George W. Banks, a personal friend of her father, who gave her in marriage. She was gowned in Ivory satin, with a long train, and wore a bridal veil caught with a coronet of orange blossoms. Her shower bouquet was of gardenias and xxx.

The only attendant was Miss Dorothy Anne Banks, who wore yellow net over taffeta, trimmed with net ruffling, and a yellow net veil caught with a cluster of spring flowers. Her bouquet was of mixed spring flowers, Mr. John Edward Patton served as best man.

Immediately following the wedding, a reception was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Banks, the house being decorated with white candles and a profusion of white flowers. The table decorations were carried out in white and silver, with a large wedding cake. Later in the day Mr. and Mrs. Garrison left on a trip to New York, and eventually will make their home in California, where the groom, who has just returned from two years’ service in the Mediterranean area, will be stationed.

The bride and groom were classmates at Washington College, Chestertown, the latter specializing in psychiatry in New York. Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Garrison taught school at Denton, Md.

Great Day! I’m in continuous search for some details regarding the remaining family members/relatives of my paternal grandfather Mr. Paul H. Wood when I came across this article. I wonder if you can help me with perhaps any email or contact information where I can get in touch with Mortimer Garrison’s family? He happens to be according to my internet research is the son in law of my grandfather. Please do respond if there’s any information you can provide. My father (son of Paul) never met his father and we’re trying to know the history or genealogy of Mr. Paul Wood.

Any response would be greatly appreciated
