State Police Looking For New Troopers

Colonel Robert Lally, Superintendent of the Maryland State Police has announced that applications for appointment as Trooper are now being accepted.

The next recruit class will begin on July 1, at the Police Academy in Pikesville. Qualified applicants will undergo 21 weeks of intensive basic training in all phases of law enforcement, before being assigned to field duty.

Starting salary for this position is $6700 with automatic increases over a period of six years to $8710.

In order to qualify, applicants must be citizens of the United States; residents of Maryland on the date of appointment; between the ages of 21 and 31; 5 ft. 10 inches tall; approximately 160 pounds; possess a high school diploma or an equivalency certificate; and be in excellent physical condition with good moral background.

Written examinations for qualified applicants will be given by the Commissioner of Personnel in Baltimore, Hagerstown and Cambridge on Saturday, March 30. Closing date for submitting applications is March 1.

Applications may be obtained at Maryland State Police Headquarters or any State Police Installation.
