Sykesville Items

Democratic Advocate

We were favored with a fine rain on Friday last which greatly improved the appearance of vegetation in our section of the country.

On Monday night, 1st instant, the Sykesville Building Association, No. 2, was organized, and the following officers elected for the ensuing year : President, S. R. Duvall, Vice President, Joshua Barnes, Secretary, J. K. Kearney, Treasurer, G. Wynkoop, Solicitor, W. A. Hammond. Board of Directors: M. J. McDonald, Beall Willis, W. P. Gorsuch, jr., V. R. Thompson, Dr. Charles Morehead. We learn that the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad contemplate erecting a new telegraph office and station house here.

A short time since a man representing himself as a repairer of clocks, visited our village and during his stay effected an entrance to Dr. C. Morehend’s office and carried off a valuable case of surgical instruments. He was followed to Beam’s mill, on the Liberty pike, and then “the trail was lost.”

Some of our farmers will commence planting corn the last of this week.
