To Present “Androcles And The Lion” Saturday, April 20

April 18, 1968

The Maryland Young Players Workshop will present its production of “Androcles and The Lion” in three Carroll County locations on Saturday, April 20, under the sponsorship of the Carroll County Arts Council and other local groups.

Adapted and directed by David Frank, who is the assistant to the director of the Young Players Workshop School and a member of The Center Stage Acting Company, “Androcles and The Lion” is acted by young people. It tells the story of The Empress, played by Judy Shub, who wants all the animals in the kingdom killed so that she will be the strongest person in the kingdom.

The Lion, portrayed by George Pamphrey, is idolized by the animal kingdom because he kills the Empress’ soldiers who set traps for the rabbits and kill other forest dwellers. Androcles, played by Dean Huffman, is a timid sole who ventures into the forest and meets The Lion. Performances will be at Manchester Elementary school at 10:30 a.m., Taneytown High School at 1:30 p.m., and South Carroll High School at 4 p.m. The South Carroll performance is sponsored by the Ebonezer Methodist Church, Winfield.
